News From the Library

Hundreds of new books are arriving at the Bemiss Library and students are eagerly awaiting their chance to check out a book from the fantastic selection! Thanks to our Spokane Public School Board and a $7000 budget given to us last year for new books at each of the elementary libraries, our shelves are continuing to be filled up.

I have been teaching the library standard about being a responsible library borrower to all of the Bemiss students. To those students who take great care of their books, return them in a timely fashion, take responsibility if the book gets lost or damaged, THANK YOU! Our books do cost money to purchase and fines are put on a student’s account if a book is lost after a month from the initial checkout or if it is damaged. I send home letters at least twice a month if a student has a fine. Parents and guardians can come into the library to pay the fine or send the payment in a sealed envelope with your student’s name on it. If you cannot afford to pay a fine for your child’s book, please contact me at 354-2317 or Mrs. Erickson in the office.

It’s our hope that students will be responsible library borrowers not only here at Bemiss, but outside of our school walls as well. Enjoy the books. Remember there’s also financial responsibilities that come with checking out library books!
